Winnipeg Freeriders is a beginner, intermediate and advanced skills ski club based out of Winnipeg. Our home hill is Springhill, but we also train at multiple locations in Manitoba including Stony Mountain and Assesippi. We also train and compete throughout western Canada and mid-west USA. It may sound strange, but training locally at Springhill provides us with fast lap opportunities that mountain skiers revel.
If you want to take your ski skills to the next level, we are the club for you. Winnipeg Freeriders believes skiing is a lifestyle sport and offers superior training in all freestyle disciplines from Slopestyle, to Big-Air and Moguls. Whether you have basic park skills, or none at all, don’t worry; we have a program for you! And although our athletes come to us to help develop their freestyle skiing skills, there is no prerequisite other than a desire to learn and have fun in an awesome environment.
From children right up to our older-aged crew, we create custom groups to help students learn at their own pace for optimum freestyle development.
Our coaches — former Team Manitoba freestyle ski athletes — are all NCCP certified for sport training to assist with student development safely and successfully, while having a blast; and because we all believe in lifelong ski development, our coaches range in age, expertise and passion.
For liability protection, our club and coaches are certified under MB Freestyle and Freestyle Canada so that our athletes may train and compete under both provincial and national guidelines.
Programs We Offer
This winter we are offering several programs including our FUNdamentalz program designed for kids aged six to 12. The program is based on the brand new Freestyle CANADA program being rolled out this winter, previously the Jumps and Bumps program! The purpose of this program is to get young kids engaged in our sport while having a ton of FUN! This program is for any child who with good general ski abilities who has the desire to learn freestyle in safe environment.
Our Freestylers program is geared at youth aged 11 to 14; an intermediate program, it is ideal for skiers with a basic knowledge of park and air skills with a desire to take their skills to the next level. We believe that fun, hard work and skill development builds better athletes. But equally important to us is injury prevention. We follow NCCP & Freestyle CANADA L2T modules. To advance our skiiers athleticism, we not only train on snow, but also in a variety of other environments including participating in summer water ramp camps, as well as dryland and trampoline training. When the skiers are ready, they can compete in fun club competitions to enhance their confidence and show off their skills.
Our Comp crew is our advanced program. In order for our athletes to perform optimally, we expect our Comp crew to commit equally to training and development of strength, agility and technique in order to perfect their next trick. We follow the T2T and L2C NCCP modules. Whether it is a cork 7, rodeo 5, switch misty or a big backie, our high performance coach is invert and off-axis certified and ready to help you take your performance to the next level in order to compete at Interprovincial, Junior National, and North American competitions.
This is what you can learn to do!
Regardless of where you’re at, we’ll literally help you reach new heights. At Freeriders, we expect our skiers to commit to personal goals, to be leaders through mentorship with peers and to think like a member of a team. The Winnipeg Freeriders are a collective of performance based athletes and therefore, attendance at all training sessions and camps is a necessity in order to for everyone to ski their best.
